Ebola border measures affecting travel to Canada and the U.S.

August 17, 2026

The Government of Canada and the U.S. Transportation Administration (TSA) have introduced temporary border requirements related to an Ebola outbreak. These measures may affect travellers who have recently been in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Uganda or South Sudan, including if they were only transiting through these countries (within 21 days of travel).

Depending on your citizenship, residency status and travel history, you may be subject to entry restrictions, quarantine requirements or other public health measures when travelling to Canada and the U.S.

As eligibility requirements vary by traveller and are subject to change, it’s important to review the following information.

For travel to Canada:
Government of Canada official guidance

For travel to the US:

Additional Consular Information for Americans Regarding the Ebola Outbreak

Important:

In Canada, these measures are currently in effect until August 29, 2026.

Some travellers who qualify for an exemption from the Government of Canada's entry restrictions must obtain an exemption letter before travelling. If an exemption letter is required, it must be presented to the airline before boarding a flight to Canada and may also be required upon arrival at the Canadian border.
