The New Aeroplan Elite Status.

Air Canada Altitude is becoming Aeroplan Elite Status. Just like today, you’ll continue to qualify for status based on the qualifying miles, flight segments and dollars you earn with Air Canada and the Star Alliance member airlines. While much about status will remain the same, there are also some really exciting new improvements:

Priority Rewards

We’ve simplified the pricing of flight rewards. With that, we’ve also simplified your Priority Rewards benefit. Starting November 8, members with Aeroplan 35K Status or higher can use a Priority Reward voucher to get a 50% discount on the base fare in points of a flight reward – any time they want. You can earn up to 11 Priority Reward vouchers each year.

Here’s how it works:

icon reward

Get a Priority Reward voucher each time you reach a new Status Qualifying Dollar (SQD) threshold.

icon star

Earn vouchers for different cabins and destinations based on your status at the time you reach each SQD level.

icon voucher

Your voucher discounts the base fare in points of your flight reward by 50%. (Taxes, fees, charges and, where applicable, the partner booking fee are excluded.)

icon flight

Your 50% off voucher can be applied easily when booking flight rewards on any airline at aircanada.com, or on the Air Canada app.

icon person

Each voucher can be applied against one flight reward, per passenger.

Each Priority Reward voucher is earned based on Status Qualifying Dollars (SQD), and your Elite Status at the time you reach each SQD level. Earn a voucher when you cross the 4,000, 7,000, 10,000 and 15,000 SQD thresholds, and for every 5,000 SQD earned above 15,000 SQD – up to a maximum of 50,000 SQD. Priority Reward vouchers will be valid for one year from the date you earn them.

Everyday Status Qualification

Starting January 2021, reach Aeroplan Elite Status in more ways than ever before. The Aeroplan points you earn every day — through spending on Aeroplan credit cards, flying with Air Canada and partner airlines, and with any of our other travel and retail partners — can help you reach Elite Status. Earn 100,000 points through eligible transactions during a calendar year, and you’ll have Aeroplan 25K Status through the following year. Beginning next spring, you’ll also be able to track your progress on aircanada.com.

Get more out of status with Aeroplan credit cards.

Many of our Aeroplan credit cards are the ideal complement to your Elite Status.

More information

Your current Altitude status is secure.

The status you earned in 2019 will carry over for the remainder of the 2020 benefit year in the new program, and into 2021 as well. All that's changing are the tier names: Aeroplan 25K, 35K, 50K, 75K or Super Elite.

Aeroplan Elite Status Members will enjoy many of the same benefits they have with today’s Altitude status.

Aeroplan Elite Status Members will continue to enjoy a wide range of Core Benefits and can choose the benefits which are most valuable to them, known as Select Benefits. Review the Elite Status benefits.

Note the following benefit changes:

  • aircanada.com Travel Options provided to Air Canada Altitude members today will no longer be offered to Elite Status Members beginning November 8. If you haven’t used your promotion codes, we encourage you to click here to make note of them. We’ll also send you an e-mail with them for your records.
  • Aeroplan 25K and 35K Members will no longer be able to choose a Discount on Maple Leaf Club Membership as a Select Benefit. If you’ve previously chosen this benefit, we encourage you to click here to make note of the associated promotion code. We’ll also send you an e-mail with it for your records.
  • Aeroplan Elite Status Members can continue to choose an Elite Status Bonus of Aeroplan points for eligible flights with Air Canada and select airline partners as one of their Select Benefits. Beginning later in 2021, when members will begin to earn points based on the amount they paid for their ticket, the new status bonuses will take effect. Learn more.
  • Aeroplan 50K, 75K and Super Elite Members will be able to choose Status Pass as a Select Benefit, in addition to receiving one as a special launch bonus, when the benefit is introduced next year. Aeroplan 50K, 75K and Super Elite Members will be able to choose two, three or four passes, respectively.
  • Beginning when we reintroduce Air Canada Bistro service onboard, and subject to the product selection available, Aeroplan Super Elite Members can enjoy one free alcoholic beverage and one free snack item when travelling on Air Canada, Air Canada Express or Air Canada Rouge in Economy Class. Note that alcoholic beverages up to a value of $6.95 are eligible, and meal and fresh snack options (such as sandwiches and salads) are not.

Air Canada Million Mile status is not changing, and your Million Mile status is not changing.

The program recognizing our most frequent flyers remains, as does your Million Mile progress to date. Look forward to special benefits and recognition at 1 Million Miles, 2 Million Miles, 3 Million Miles, and beyond!

Starting in 2021, both the qualification and benefit year will be on a calendar year.

Beginning next year, the annual qualification period and the annual benefit year will both run from January 1 to December 31.

As a reminder, in light of the impact of COVID-19, whatever Altitude status you currently hold in 2020, we will automatically extend through the end of 2021 as Aeroplan Elite Status. Should you reach a higher status before the end of 2020, it will apply through to the end of 2021 as well.

The qualification levels for Aeroplan Elite Status will largely stay the same as with today’s Altitude status.

Just like today’s Air Canada Altitude status, you’ll reach Aeroplan Elite Status based on the number of Status Qualifying Miles (SQM) or Status Qualifying Segments (SQS), and Status Qualifying Dollars (SQD), earned on eligible flights operated by Air Canada and the Star Alliance member airlines over the calendar year (January 1 through December 31). For non-Canadian residents, the required Status Qualifying Dollars will continue to be 50% lower than the published amounts found in the chart below.

Note that for members qualifying for Aeroplan Super Elite Status in 2022, the number of Status Qualifying Segments required will increase from 95 to 100.

How you earn qualifying currency for Aeroplan Elite Status will be the same as with today’s Altitude status.

In the Aeroplan Elite Status program, you will earn qualification currency in the following ways:

  • Status Qualifying Miles (SQM) are earned as a percentage of the distance you fly, based on a minimum distance of 250 miles.
  • Status Qualifying Segments (SQS) are earned for each flight segment.
  • Status Qualifying Dollars (SQD) are earned for eligible spend based on your ticket.

These qualifying currencies are separate from the Aeroplan points you earn, which can be redeemed for Aeroplan rewards.

The amount of qualifying currency you earn on different Air Canada fare options will be changing.

Beginning next year, you’ll be able to earn consistently across the Air Canada network, regardless of where you’re flying. The following qualifying currency earn criteria on Air Canada flights will come into effect on January 1, 2021:

You will continue to earn Status Qualifying Currencies on eligible flights operated by Star Alliance member airlines. Economy Basic fares will no longer be eligible to earn Status Qualifying Currencies. You will, however, now be able to earn redeemable Aeroplan points on Economy Basic fares. Learn more.

We are automatically giving members with Aeroplan 35K Status and higher Priority Rewards to start.

When the transformed Aeroplan launches on November 8, if you have Aeroplan 35K Status or higher, we will deposit Priority Reward vouchers into your account, which you can use immediately. The number we deposit will be the greater of:

  • A flat amount of vouchers, as outlined below:
Your status Aeroplan 35K Aeroplan 50K Aeroplan 75K Aeroplan Super Elite
NUMBER OF PRIORITY REWARD VOUCHERS 1 voucher 2 vouchers 3 vouchers 4 vouchers
  • The number of vouchers you would earn through our Priority Rewards thresholds, based on the 2020 Status Qualifying Dollars earned through November 8. In light of the impact of COVID-19, as a bonus, we’ll double your Status Qualifying Dollars when determining your maximum threshold.

In January 2021, we’ll double-check your year-end 2020 Status Qualifying Dollar balance, and deposit any additional Priority Reward vouchers in line with your total balance, based on the policy above.

For example, if an Aeroplan 50K Member has 4,000 SQD on November 8, we will deposit 2 Priority Reward vouchers into their account. Should the same member end 2020 with 5,250 SQD, we’ll give them an additional Priority Reward voucher in January 2021, as they will have crossed the 10,000 SQD Priority Rewards threshold (based on the bonus, double SQD amount).

Also, beginning January 1, 2021, all Elite Status Members, including Aeroplan 25K Members, will begin to earn new Priority Reward vouchers as they reach Status Qualifying Dollar thresholds.

Important information for Aeroplan diamond, black or silver status members.

As we announced in late 2019, we'll be winding down Aeroplan diamond, black and silver status. With the new Aeroplan, our members can take advantage of new pathways to Elite Status, such as Everyday Status Qualification. In the meantime, here’s what these members can expect:

  • 2020 Aeroplan diamond, black and silver status members will continue to have access to most of their benefits through December 31, 2020, including preferred pricing on flight rewards. However, beginning November 8, 2020, Preferential Rates on Flight Reward fees will no longer be available to diamond members.
  • Beginning in September 2020, and through the end of 2021, 2020 Aeroplan diamond members will receive Aeroplan 25K Status (currently known as Altitude Prestige 25K).
  • Beginning in September 2020 and through the end of 2021, members who have qualified for 2021 Aeroplan diamond, black or silver status will receive Aeroplan 25K Status (currently known as Altitude Prestige 25K). They will also receive a grant of Aeroplan points in their account in early 2021 (5,000 points for diamond members, 2,500 points for black members, and 250 points for silver members).
