Restricted entry of foreign nationals to the United States
Starting June 9, 2025, the U.S. Government is restricting entry for certain foreign nationals.
Additionally, the Government of Canada has updated its travel advisories for Canadians travelling to the U.S. We recommend reviewing entry and exit requirements ahead of your trip to make sure you’re prepared for travel.
Here’s what you need to know:
You may need a visa to travel to the U.S.
- Canadian passport holders don’t need a visa to travel to the U.S. for tourism purposes.
- For stays in the U.S. of 30 days or more, Canadian passport holders must present the I-94 form issued on entry upon request.

If you are a foreign national of certain countries, entry to the U.S is restricted.
- Entry to the U.S. is fully suspended for foreign nationals of the following countries:
- Afghanistan
- Burma
- Chad
- Republic of Congo
- Equatorial Guinea
- Eritrea
- Haiti
- Iran
- Libya
- Somalia
- Sudan
- Yemen
- Entry to the U.S. is partially suspended for foreign nationals of the following countries:
- Burundi
- Cuba
- Laos
- Sierra Leone
- Togo
- Turkmenistan
- Venezuela
- If you are a foreign national of a country on the fully suspended list:
- You will be denied entry to the U.S. under all circumstances for visas issued after June 8, 2025.
- If you do not have an eligible visa, you will not be able to board your flight to the U.S.
- If you are a foreign national of a country on the partially suspended list:
- Before you travel, make sure you meet the new visa requirements for entry.
- If you do not have an eligible visa, you will not be able to board your flight to the U.S.
