How to send a Status Pass

Status passes expire on December 31 of the benefit year. They can be applied to any Air Canada flights, by following the steps below. If the flights are part of an Air Canada Vacations package, members must contact Air Canada Reservations. Once assigned, a Status Pass can be revoked up until 2 hours before the flight.

1 Sign in to your Aeroplan account.
2 Redeem the Status Pass Benefit found under the Benefits tab.
3 Input the booking reference and last name of one of the customers on the itinerary to share the pass.
4 Ready to go! The Status Pass is applied to the specified booking and the recipient will be able to enjoy better travel on all their associated Air Canada flights.

Frequently asked questions

I'm a Super Elite Member. Will my Status Pass recipient be able to access Concierge services?

No, the Aeroplan Elite Status level of the gifting member does not carry over to the recipients of the Status Pass. The recipients of the Status Pass receive the defined benefits outlined on this page for Air Canada-operated flights only.

When do Status Passes expire?

Status Passes remain valid for use until December 31 of the year during which they were earned; passes will expire if not used by this date. A Status Pass can be added to booking containing flights departing before or after the expiry date of the Status Pass.

How many checked bags can each traveller check-in?

Each customer on bookings with a Status Pass is entitled to 3 checked bags (up to 32kg/70lb each) when departing and checking in for Air Canada-operated flights.

Which Maple Leaf Lounges can members access?

Access to Air Canada Maple Leaf Lounges and to the Air Canada Café is granted exclusively when departing on an Air Canada-operated flight. Bookings with a Status Pass will include a Maple Leaf Lounge indicator on the boarding pass. Access is not valid for contracted lounges (e.g. Star Alliance* or other airline partner lounges). Access is not valid for the Air Canada Signature Suite. No lounge guest access is permitted.

*Exception: Access valid at the United Club located in Terminal A of Newark Liberty International Airport.

How do travellers access Priority Security Clearance?

Bookings with a Status Pass will include a Priority Security Clearance indicator on the boarding pass. Priority Security is not offered at all airports.

If my recipient’s booking includes a flight by another airline, will they have access to the Status Pass benefits throughout their entire journey?

Bookings must include at least one Air Canada-operated flight. Status Pass entitles the recipient to premium travel services prior to and on Air Canada-operated flights only. These benefits do not extend to flights operated by another airline.

What types of bookings can Status Passes be applied to?

Status Pass can be applied to unused revenue and redemption bookings through the member dashboard or Air Canada Contact Center. Status Pass can be applied to partially used revenue and redemption bookings through the Contact Center only. The recipients of the Status Pass do not have to be Aeroplan Members.

Can a Status Pass be sent to someone who booked with Air Canada Vacations?

Status Pass can be only applied to Air Canada Vacations bookings through the Air Canada Contact Centre.

What happens if I want to send a Status Pass to someone who already has access to these benefits?

For bookings that already include enhanced benefits (e g. Business Class bookings, recipient holds Aeroplan Elite Status higher than Aeroplan 50K), Status Pass can only be applied through the Air Canada Contact Center.

How many travellers can access the benefits of a Status Pass?

One Status Pass is valid for all passengers booked (up to 9 people) together on one reservation. The pass cannot be added to group bookings of more than 9 passengers.

If passengers are booked on separate reservations, a Status Pass must be applied to each booking in order for everyone to enjoy these travel perks.

Can I cancel an already sent Status Pass?

Unused Status Passes can be cancelled up to 6 hours prior to travel through the Aeroplan Member dashboard. The Status Pass is considered used and cannot be refunded once travel has commenced.

If I remove the Status Pass from the recipient's booking, will it be refunded?

If removed from an unused booking prior to the pass' expiry, it will be refunded to your account. If removed from an unused booking after the pass' expiry, it will be forfeited.

What does “travel no longer needs to occur within the current year” mean?

If a Status Pass is applied to a booking made in December, but travel happens in January of the next year, it bypasses the December 31 expiry date.

How do I know if the Status Pass was added successfully to a booking?

The person granting the pass will see the pass applied in the Benefits section under Status Pass. An applied Status Pass will appear in the “Sent Passes” section.

How does the recipient of the Status Pass know it was successfully added to their booking and how do they take advantage of their benefits when flying?

The recipient will see a note when viewing their booking details on aircanada.com and on the Air Canada app. After checking in for an Air Canada flight, "STPA" will be printed on their boarding pass along with the Lounge indicator, Priority Security and Priority Boarding zone. Benefits will be granted by presenting the Air Canada boarding pass.

My Air Canada booking has a Status Pass and I am departing on a Lufthansa flight from Toronto-Pearson Airport to Frankfurt. I am returning on an Air Canada flight from Frankfurt to Toronto. What benefits am I entitled to?

A Status Pass only grants benefits when departing on an Air Canada-operated flight.

Status Pass benefits will not be granted prior to your departure from Toronto on the Lufthansa flight. You will enjoy all the available defined benefits outlined on this page prior to your return Air Canada-operated flight from Frankfurt.
