A trip to winter wonderland Ontario

Every year from December to March Ontario transforms into a winter wonderland. It’s the season for Nordic skiing, snowmobiling, snowshoeing, dogsledding and lots of wintery events. Who can resist the glittering beauty of a snow-covered landscape?

Air Canada flies three times a day non-stop from Frankfurt or Munich to Toronto.

The winter season kicks off with the illumination of the Christmas tree on Nathan Phillips Square at the Toronto Cavalcade of Lights on November 24th, accompanied by spectacular fireworks, performances by some of Canada’s top musical talent and a big skating party.

An unforgettable experience for nature lovers is to mush your way through the snowy landscapes being pulled by a team of huskies. Haliburton Forest & Wildlife Reserve offers tours with a musher through the 250 square kilometer wilderness reserve.

If you prefer more speed, you can rent a snowmobile and experience one of the longest networks of recreational snowmobile trails in the world – over 30,000 kilometers long! The trails are well connected and tours from lodge to lodge are possible.

Lake Simcoe is considered THE hotspot for ice fishing: Only half an hour north of Toronto it is known as the ice fishing capital of Canada. Be patient, snuggle up in a hut and wait for something big to bite!

If ice skating is of interest, then Arrowhead Provincial Park is a paradise: the 1,3 Kilometer natural skating trail winds through the thick Muskoka forest and is a winter experience like no other. On the legendary Fire & Ice nights the trail is illuminated by hundreds of torches that guide skaters through the woods.

No winter trip to Ontario is complete without a visit to Ottawa and the Rideau Canal Skateway.
With a length of 7.8 kilometres, it is the world’s largest skating rink right in the heart of the city and venue of the spectacular Winterlude Festival in February.
