* You have the option of a refund if your flight is cancelled, or if you are otherwise delayed by more than 3 hours in relation to your original departure or arrival time, or if we add a connection to your itinerary.

How to cancel a booking

Please remember to cancel your booking via your original point of purchase as each partner has a unique booking system that we are unable to access, and they are better equipped to assist you.

If you booked directly through Air Canada, you may cancel your booking online by visiting My Bookings and following the instructions.

You may cancel your booking online if:

  • You originally booked your flight on aircanada.com or via the Air Canada mobile app
  • You are cancelling an Aeroplan flight reward booking
  • You are cancelling your entire booking
  • You are cancelling your flight at least two hours before departure

Partial cancellation:

If you need to cancel one or more segments of your itinerary, please contact Air Canada Reservations.

24 hours refundability:

If you cancel your booking within 24 hours of purchase, we will refund the value of your ticket or simply cancel the payment transaction.

For cancellations outside of 24 hours, refundability will depend on the fare type you purchased.

Passenger withdrawal Rights (Colombian law)

In all contracts for the sale of goods and provision of services through financing systems provided by the producer or supplier, sale of timeshares or sales using non-traditional or distance methods, which by their nature should not be consumed or have not begun to be executed before five (5) days, the withdrawal right will be understood as agreed. In the event that the right to withdrawal is used, the contract will be terminated and the money paid by the consumer will be refunded. The consumer must return the product to the producer or supplier by the same means and in the same conditions in which it was received. Transportation and others costs involved in the returning the good will be covered by the consumer. The maximum term for exercising the withdrawal right will be five (5) business days from the delivery of the goods or from the execution of the contract in the case of the provision of services.

The following cases are exempt from the withdrawal right:

1. In contracts for the provision of services whose provision has begun with the consumer’s agreement;

2. In contracts for the supply of goods or services whose price is subject to fluctuations in financial market coefficients that the producer cannot control;

3. In contracts for the supply of goods made to the consumer's specifications or clearly personalized;

4. In contracts for the supply of goods which, by their nature, cannot be returned or may deteriorate or expire rapidly;

5. In contracts for betting and lottery services;

6. In contracts for the acquisition of perishable goods;

7. In contracts for the acquisition of goods for personal use.

All sums paid must be returned to the consumer in cash without any discounts or deductions for any concept.

Right of Withdrawal and Retraction for Colombia

Right of withdrawal In application of article 1878 of the Commercial Code, you may cancel your trip by giving notice to Air Canada or your travel agent at least twenty-four (24) hours prior to the departure of your, flight. Air Canada will refund your ticket, but Air Canada is entitled to retain an amount of money corresponding to 10% of the value received as a fee, excluding rates, taxes, and administrative fees. Only you as the passenger may exercise this right.

Right of retraction: In accordance with the provisions of article 47 of Law 1480, when you make purchases directly at Air Canada’s website or via our Call Center, you are entitled to withdraw from the purchase and cancel your reservation within 5 days of the ticket purchase date, as long as the flight is not within the 5 days following the date of your retraction. Air Canada will refund the money within a maximum period of thirty (30) calendar days from the communication of the above requests.

Frequently asked questions

Do I have to pay an administrative fee to get my refund?

A change or cancellation fee may apply based on the type of ticket you purchased. Please note that Air Canada has never charged a refund processing fee to customers or travel agencies. If you purchased your ticket with a travel agency and have a question about a fee, please contact your travel agency for more information.

Are taxes, fees and additional charges associated with my ticket refundable?

Certain taxes, fees, and charges are refundable based on the following:

  • The type of ticket you bought (refundable/non-refundable)
  • Whether the ticket was wholly or partially used
  • Regulations of the country where the ticket was purchased and/or the departure country

Examples for completely unused tickets:

Notwithstanding, the refundability rules mentioned above, Air Canada will exceptionally refund the Air Travellers Security Charge outside the 24 months limitation for eligible tickets only (ticket with travel dates on or after February 1, 2020 and purchased before April 13, 2021).

CR – Transportation Tax – Costa Rica refundable by customer’s request to the Costa Rican Tourism Institute, as Air Canada is not allowed to refund it directly due to country regulations.
DO – Transportation Tax – Dominican Republic Refundable on the unutilized portion of service, if within 30 days of ticket issuance. Not refundable on forfeited amounts.
L8 – Tourism Tax - Dominican Republic Only refundable by customer’s request to the Dominican Republic authority, as Air Canada is not allowed to refund it directly due to country regulations.
E2 – Infrastructure Tax - Ecuador Not refundable.
ED – International Tourism Fee – Ecuador Not refundable.
EC – Government Transportation Tax - Ecuador Refundable on fully unused tickets. Not refundable if ticket is partially used or on forfeited amounts.
PA – Value Added Tax - Panama Refundable on the unutilized portion of service, if within 180 days of ticket issuance. Not refundable on forfeited amounts.
PE – Sales Tax - Peru Refundable on fully unused tickets, if within 30 days of ticket issuance. Not refundable if ticket is partially used or on forfeited amounts.
K3 – Goods and Services Tax - India Refundable on the unutilized portion of service, but only until the following August 31st of the India government financial year* in which the ticket was issued. Not refundable on forfeited amounts.
*India government financial year is from April 1 to March 31. Please contact Air Canada Reservations for assistance.

I cancelled the credit card used at the time of booking, or it expired. How do I receive my refund?

Air Canada will refund the money to the credit card you used at the time of purchase.

  • If your new credit card is with the same financial institution, contact them directly as they may have already transferred the money to your new card.
  • If you no longer have a credit card with the same financial institution, contact your original bank, credit union, or other financial institution.
  • If the original financial institution no longer exists, you will still need to request a refund. Air Canada will be notified of the financial institution’s closure and will contact you directly to finalize payment details. If you have not heard back from us within 2 months of your original request submission, please contact us at 1 888 247-2262.
  • Should we become aware of the fact that your bank, credit union or other financial institution has rejected a refund, we will contact you.

I am a travel agent unable to process the refund in my GDS. What can I do?

If you are unable to process the refund because you can’t display the eTicket or process an adjustment refund because the coupons are not available, please fill out our application form and your request will be reviewed by an Air Canada agent.
