Easily travel to the U.S. through Canada

Connect through Canada without a Canadian visa for a seamless journey to the U.S. Learn about the China Transit Program (CTP) below.

You are eligible to travel to the U.S. via Canada without a Canadian visa if:

  • You have the following documents:
    • a valid U.S. visa
    • a valid passport from People’s Republic of China (not issued by Hong Kong or Macao Special Administrative Regions)
    • a confirmed flight ticket to the U.S. that leaves Canada within 24 hours of your arrival (if your flight is cancelled or delayed, or you’re arriving outside the hours of operation for U.S. Preclearance facilities, you’ll have to go to the Canada Border Services Agency for examination)
  • you travel with Air Canada, Air Canada Rouge and Air Canada Jazz

  • you are flying non-stop from Beijing or Shanghai to Vancouver

  • you remain in the Canadian airport during your stopover, except to board your flight

  • What to expect during your connection at the Canadian airport

    1. You will need to stay in the sterile transit area upon arrival and follow the signs to the U.S. connection area.

    2. You and your baggage will be re-screened for security.

    3. Proceed to U.S. Customs and Border Protection, where a border officer will process your entry into the U.S.

    4. Once cleared, enter the departures area and proceed to your flight.
