How to check your bag
Print your bag tag
Print your bag tag at a self-serve kiosk at the airport, or head to an Air Canada baggage counter where one of our agents can print it for you.
- Plan on getting to the airport early so you have ample time to print your bag tag, drop off your belongings, and get through security. You can start the bag check process as early as 4 hours before departure.
- See recommended check-in and baggage drop off times online, on your Air Canada app or your boarding pass.
Drop off your bag
After attaching your bag tag, head to either a self-serve bag drop location or the Air Canada baggage counter to hand off your belongings to one of our agents.
- Travelling with an oversized/overweight bag? Just head to the heavy baggage drop off or look for the “Step 2” sign. Additional charges may apply.
- Bringing a special item? You’ll need to register it with us at least 24 hours before your flight. To do so, contact us or your travel agent.
Once the baggage counter is closed, we’re unable to check any other bags. See our baggage drop-off deadlines to be sure you don’t miss the window.
Head to security
Once you’ve dropped off your belongings, head to security to have your carry-on and/or personal items screened before your flight.
- Flying Economy Basic? Air Canada Economy Basic fare tickets purchased on or after January 3, 2025, no longer include carry-on baggage for select destinations. Find out more.
- Have a connecting flight? You might need to re-check your bags between stops. Check the process ahead of time.
Carry-on baggage sizers
To ensure your carry-on bag will fit on board, we use automated carry-on baggage sizers at pre-security and/or pre-boarding.
Please make sure your carry-on bag complies with our sizing guide to avoid having to check it in.
Any non-compliant baggage will be assessed and is subject to applicable baggage fees.
