Extending your Elite Status Validity

We’re excited to share an improvement to the Aeroplan Elite Status program—driven entirely by feedback from many of our members.

We’re introducing Extended Status Validity to make sure your Status benefits are uninterrupted during the busy winter holiday travel season. This means your Elite status extends through to January 31 of the following year, instead of ending on December 31.

As always, thank you so much for your Loyalty.

  • If you secure your Elite Status for 2026 before the end of 2025, your status will be valid until January 31, 2027. Your Elite Status will be extended automatically, and your 2026 Core Benefits will be available by mid‑January, as usual.
  • If you’re expecting a downgrade in your Elite Status in 2026, your 2025 Elite Status will be extended until January 31, 2026, giving you an extra month to enjoy your travel benefits. Your new Elite Status, if applicable, will take effect on February 1, 2026, and your Core Benefits will be available by mid‑February. We will extend status expiry dates between December 31 and January 1 each year.
  • Earning Aeroplan Elite status will remain based on your activity between January 1 and December 31 of each year.

We hope that this improvement makes your Elite benefits more enjoyable. It’s just one of the ways we’re working to improve your membership experience.

Who are the most impacted members?

If you’re downgrading status and travelling in January, this change is especially beneficial for you. It ensures you continue to enjoy your Elite benefits during your travels.

How does this impact my benefits?

With this extension, you’ll keep your Elite Status and the associated airport benefits throughout January. Starting February 1 of each year, your benefits will align with your new status.

The extension is not applicable to eUpgrade credits, Priority Rewards, Maple Leaf Lounge passes, nor Status Passes; these remain valid until the date(s) listed on your Aeroplan Dashboard.

How does this change impact my Status Qualification?

The requirements to earn status are still based on a calendar year accumulation. You will need to meet the minimum requirements for each status level between January 1 and December 31 of a given year.

If you currently hold Super Elite Status based on last year's earnings, your Super Elite Status would previously have been valid until December 31 of the current year.

With this change, your status travel benefits will be extended until January 31 of the following year. On February 1 of the following year, your status and benefits will be determined based on your accumulation between January 1st and December 31 of the current year.

Therefore, the qualification period is still 12 months (calendar year), but the status is now valid for 13 months. This will only affect you if you are expected to drop to a lower status.
