EMD-A for GDS Edifact Bookings Paid Seat Selection

Electronic Miscellaneous Document (EMD) is an industry standard method for collecting various types of airline’s related ancillary fees.

EMD-A are issued in most GDS to collect payment of seat selection on flights marketed and operated by Air Canada1. For AC codeshare flights operated by other airlines, you must contact the operating carrier to select and pay for seat selection. EMD-As are non-refundable.

Process to issue EMD-A

You must first issue the ticket to ensure the GDS can select seats with proper pricing behavior or pricing exemption.  Costs vary by route, number of flight segments, and actual seat selected. Once tickets are issued, the applicable cost is displayed in the seat map.
