Ebola measure affecting travel to
Canada and the U.S.

November 3, 2026

The Government of Canada and U.S. health authorities have introduced temporary border requirements related to an Ebola outbreak. These measures may affect travellers who have recently been in Uganda, South Sudan or the Democratic Republic of the Congo, including if they were only transiting through these countries within 21 days of travel.

Depending on your citizenship, residency status and travel history, you may be subject to entry restrictions, quarantine requirements or other public health measures when travelling to Canada or the U.S.

For travel to Canada

Canada’s measures are currently in effect until November 27, 2026. Some travellers who qualify for an exemption from the Government of Canada’s entry restrictions must obtain an exemption letter before travelling. If required, the letter must be presented to the airline before boarding a flight to Canada and may also be required upon arrival.

For travel to or through the U.S.

Starting November 3, 2026, at 11:59 p.m. EST, all passengers travelling by air from a foreign country to the U.S. must complete an attestation at check-in before boarding their flight confirming that they have not been in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) within the previous 21 days.

You can complete your attestation when you check in for your flight:

  • online, via the Air Canada app or our website
  • at an airport kiosk
  • with an Air Canada representative at the airport

The attestation is required to travel, and passengers who do not complete it or who have travelled to or through the DRC will be denied boarding. To help make your airport experience as smooth as possible, please have all required travel documentation completed and ready before your trip.

The U.S. requirement regarding the DRC also applies to passengers connecting through the U.S. to another country, and is scheduled to remain in effect through December 18, 2026, unless amended or rescinded earlier.

Separate U.S. measures related to Uganda and South Sudan also remain in effect and do not currently have a specified end date.
