Surname and Given Name
Minimum Requirement of Number of Letters

For ticket issuance, a surname name is mandatory and must contain a minimum of 2 letters; the given name must be at least 1 letter.

Names not indicated in the passport

When the surname or the given name are not indicated in the passport, enter FNU in the given name field as follows:

Surname name - missing or includes only one letter
Enter the Given name (s) in the Surname field, and FNU in the Given name field followed by a title. Example if John is the Given name: JOHN/FNUMR.    

In addition, although this is not industry standard, if the family name includes only one letter, you may also double letter.  Example if Family name is shown as Y, you may use YY/JOHN MR.

If there are other airlines on the ticket, please contact the other airline to ensure the reservation will be accepted.

No Given Name
Enter initials and/or title whenever possible.

If the passenger does not have a Given name, enter FNU in the Given name field, followed by a title. Example: JONES/FNUMRS

For customers travelling to the United Arab Emirates (UAE)

Customers with travel documents that only bear a single name are not permitted to enter the United Arab Emirates.

For entry, passports must include at least two names, a surname and a given name, with a space separating the 2 names, regardless of whether both names are listed as surname or given names.

Important:

  • Adding FNU as indicated above is not accepted by UAE. 
  • Instructions to enter names if a passport shows the customer’s name on the front page and additional names on other pages booking:

The policy does not apply to:

  • Residents of the United Arab Emirates (holding a valid residence visa);
  • Passengers with an employment visa issued by the United Arab Emirates;
  • Passengers with a valid United Arab Emirates I.D Card.
