How Air Canada Stopover works

You can opt in to Air Canada Stopover at any time up until 96 hours before your flight’s scheduled departure time:

  • When you book your flight, select Air Canada Stopover from the travel options offered to you after you’ve made your flight selection, or ask your travel agent to do it for you.
  • If you’ve already booked your flight, retrieve your booking and, if you’re eligible, you’ll find a link to opt in to Air Canada Stopover.

You then have until 96 hours prior to your arrival in your connecting city (Toronto, Montréal or Vancouver) to book your hotel.

How do I know if I’m eligible for Air Canada Stopover?

You’ll be offered the Air Canada Stopover option when you purchase a one-way or round-trip ticket (any fare) at or through your travel agent, provided:

  • You complete your booking at least 96 hours before your flight’s scheduled departure time.
  • You’re travelling on an Air Canada-coded flight operated by Air Canada or Air Canada Rouge, or an Air Canada Express flight operated by Jazz.
  • Your itinerary includes at least one city outside Canada or the U.S. as well as a connection in Toronto, Montréal or Vancouver of over 6 hours

Note: You must be 21 years of age or over to check-in at most Canadian hotels.

The Air Canada Stopover option is not available for:

  • Multi-city itineraries
  • Group bookings
  • Bookings which include an open-jaw segment.
    • An open jaw segment is one in which you are either travelling to one city and continuing onward from another, or departing from one city but returning to another.

If the connection time in my stopover city is just under six hours, can I choose to move to a later flight in order to take full advantage of the one-night hotel offer?

This will depend on the ticket restrictions for the fare category you purchased; as with most tickets, change fees may apply. If the fare category allows for flight changes before the start of your trip, then you can change to a later flight to take advantage of the Air Canada Stopover option. It’s important, however, to remember that flight changes are subject to seat availability.

Can I book my hotel stopover AFTER I have completed my booking?

Yes, you can opt in to Air Canada Stopover even if you already completed your booking, provided you do so at least 96 hours before your flight’s scheduled departure time. Simply retrieve your booking by going to My Bookings and click on the stopover reservation link.

Is the hotel stopover offered in both directions?

Yes, the hotel stopover is offered on both outbound and inbound flights. You can book a first hotel stopover en route to your destination and even opt for a second stopover on your return flight.

What happens if my flight is cancelled or if I want to cancel my hotel reservation?

If your flight is cancelled:

If your flight is cancelled, you’ll no longer be eligible for the Air Canada Stopover option. You’ll need to retrieve your booking online and cancel your hotel reservation before 4 pm (ET) on the day of hotel check-in.

Any credit card payments associated with your reservation will automatically be refunded to the original form of payment once you have cancelled your hotel reservation.

If you want to cancel your hotel booking

To obtain a refund, you must cancel your booking prior to 4 pm (ET) on the day of hotel check-in. For late cancellations or no-shows, the hotel booking is 100% non-refundable.
