Industrial Action in Argentina

June 22, 2018

Because of the industrial action planned in Argentina, Air Canada has implemented a policy for customers who wish to make voluntary changes to their itinerary.

This policy applies to customers:

  • Who purchased an Air Canada ticket no later than June 20th, 2018 for travel between June 24th and June 26th, 2018
  • Whose itinerary includes a flight to or from Ministro Pistarini Int. Airport (EZE) in Buenos Aires

If you are scheduled to travel during the affected time, you may contact Air Canada Reservations to change your flight free of charge, to another date between now and July 3rd, 2018, subject to availability in the cabin you originally purchased. Otherwise, any fare difference will apply.

If you purchased your ticket with Aeroplan, or Air Canada Vacations, please contact them directly.

Update - Osaka Area Earthquake

June 19, 2018

Because of the earthquake that hit the Osaka area of Japan, Air Canada has implemented a policy for customers who wish to make voluntary changes to their itinerary.

This policy applies to customers:

  • Who purchased an Air Canada ticket no later than June 17th, 2018 for travel between now and June 19th, 2018
  • Whose itinerary includes a flight to or from Kansai (KIX) or Osaka (ITM) International Airport

If you are scheduled to travel during the affected period, you may contact Air Canada Reservations to change your flight free of charge, to another date between now and June 24, 2018, subject to availability in the cabin you originally purchased. Otherwise, any fare difference will apply.

Update - Civil Unrest in Nicaragua

Because of the civil unrest in Nicaragua, Air Canada has implemented a policy for customers who wish to make voluntary changes to their itinerary.

This policy applies to customers:

  • Who purchased an Air Canada ticket no later than June 14th, 2018 for travel between now and June 24th, 2018
  • Whose itinerary includes a flight to or from Augusto C. Sandino International Airport (MGA)

If you are scheduled to travel during the affected period, you may contact Air Canada Reservations to change your flight free of charge, to another date between now and July 01, 2018, subject to availability in the cabin you originally purchased. Otherwise, any fare difference will apply.

Economy Basic Fares Now Available on Select International Flights

We are introducing our Economy Basic fare on select flights between Canada and destinations over the Atlantic.

Also available on certain flights within Canada, Economy Basic offers all the comfort and amenities of our contemporary Economy Class cabin, but it also comes with a few important restrictions. You’ll want to review those to make sure the fare meets your specific travel needs.

Update - Brazil Industrial Action

May 29, 2018

As a result of the industrial action in Brazil, Air Canada has extended its policy for customers who wish to make voluntary changes to their itinerary.

This policy applies to customers:

  • Who purchased an Air Canada ticket no later than May 25, 2018 for travel between now and June 04, 2018
  • Whose itinerary includes a flight to or from Galeao International Airport, Rio de Janeiro (GIG) or Guarulhos International Airport, Sao Paulo (GRU)

If you are scheduled to travel during the affected period, you may contact Air Canada Reservations to change your flight free of charge, to another date between now and June 10, 2018, subject to availability in the cabin you originally purchased. Otherwise, any fare difference will apply.

Update - Hawaii Volcanic Activity

May 24, 2018

In response to the recent volcanic activity in Hawaii, Air Canada has extended its policy for customers who purchased an Air Canada ticket no later than May 16, 2018 for travel to or from Kona or Hilo between May 16 and May 31, 2018.

If you are scheduled to travel on the above dates, you may contact Air Canada Reservations (1-888-247-2262) to change your flight, free of charge, to another date between now and June 15, 2018, subject to availability in the cabin you originally purchased. Otherwise, any fare difference will apply.

You may also choose to travel to an alternate destination. Any change fees will be waived, provided you are travelling between now and June 15, 2018. However, any fare difference will apply.

Central Mountain Air Changes Terminals at Vancouver International Airport (YVR)

Effective June 1st, 2018, Central Mountain Air (CMA) flights out of Vancouver International Airport (YVR) will be relocating to the South Terminal (from the Main Terminal), and all Central Mountain Air flights will depart from and arrive at the South Terminal.

If you are connecting to or from an Air Canada flight operated by CMA, you will need to:

  • collect your checked baggage on arrival in Vancouver
  • transfer between terminals via the airport’s complimentary shuttle bus service
  • check your bags once again for your connecting flight once you arrive at the appropriate terminal

Rest assured that connection times between flights have been adjusted to reflect the additional time you’ll need to change terminals.  And should you require assistance or guidance in transferring between terminals on your day of travel, please present yourself to an Air Canada or Central Mountain Air agent at the airport.

Accepted Forms of Payment at Select Canadian Airports

May 4, 2018

Effective May 8th, 2018, cash payments will no longer be accepted at Air Canada counters located at Calgary (YYC), Edmonton (YEG) and Winnipeg (YWG) International airports. Customers will have the option of paying tickets as well as baggage and other fees with any major credit or debit card.

And a reminder that, since October of 2017, Air Canada counters at Ottawa International Airport (YOW) also accept credit or debit card payments only.

ReadySTATION™ Cash Conversion Kiosks

Prepaid MasterCard credit cards are available for purchase at ReadySTATION™ cash conversion kiosks located at these four airports. If you do choose this option, please make sure to keep your prepaid credit card (even if its value has reached zero) until all travel associated with the card has been completed. In the event of a refund, this will allow us to return the amount to your original form of payment.

China to Start Fingerprinting Foreign Visitors Entering the Country

April 26, 2018

China’s Ministry of Public Security has announced that it is implementing a policy to collect fingerprints of foreign passport holders upon their arrival in China.

Effective April 27, 2018, border control authorities at all of China’s ports of entry, including its airports, will start collecting the fingerprints of all foreign visitors aged between 14 and 70. Diplomatic passport holders and beneficiaries of reciprocal agreements are exempted.

With this new policy, China joins other countries around the world who already collect fingerprints and other biometrics from foreigners.

New policy concerning personal headphones

March 29, 2018

Air Canada is happy to announce that, beginning on April 1, 2018, passengers on our flights will be able to use their personal headphones (of any kind) on our in-flight entertainment system or their personal mobile devices. This service is available from gate to gate at any time, except, of course, while the safety video is being played. Please note that wireless or Bluetooth headphones may be used only on flights with WiFi, because of their technology.
