A Valued Partner in Vaccine Distribution
COVID-19 vaccines are being transported around the world and Air Canada Cargo, a trusted supply chain partner, is proud to be involved in bringing the vaccines to Canadians.
“We are seeing shipments of vaccines and vaccine consumables being transported by Air Canada Cargo for distribution in Canada since December. These shipments are a result of close collaboration with our supply chain partners, and our operational readiness to expertly handle them” said Vito Cerone, Vice-President, Cargo Sales and Commercial Strategy.
Air Canada Cargo underwent an extensive preparedness exercise in 2020 to ensure all aspects of its operations were up-to-date and reflective of current requirements and standards for transporting vaccines.
In July, Air Canada became the first airline in Canada to achieve IATA’s CEIV Pharma certification. CEIV Pharma certification ensures international and national compliance to safeguard product integrity, while addressing specific air cargo needs. Certification requires that facilities, equipment, operations and staff comply with all applicable standards, regulations and guidelines expected from pharmaceutical manufacturers.
As part of its preparation, Air Canada Cargo also finalized agreements with additional suppliers of active, passive and hybrid packages, and increased capabilities for pharma handling by undergoing a thorough review of all stations in its network, including those managed by third parties.
In addition to its robust, extensive global network, pharmaceutical shipments handled by Air Canada Cargo benefit from:
- Designated AC Pharmacair and AC Absolute solutions for handling pharmaceuticals
- Compliance with International Air Transport Association (IATA) safety & security regulations
- Efficient transport and handling processes
- Web-based shipment tracking, use of approved data logging equipment
Air Canada Cargo has over 20 years of experience shipping high-value, time-sensitive and temperature-sensitive products, including but not limited to vaccines and pharmaceuticals.
