Last fall, Transport Canada's Air Cargo Security Program launched a new application process in support of regulatory enhancements passed earlier in the year. Canada's air cargo industry will have more options to determine where within the supply chain cargo can be screened to secure it for air transport.
Any business wishing to accept, store, transport or screen secure air cargo must submit its application by MARCH 31. While the program officially starts October 17, the application process can take up to 6 months. Applications received after March 31 will continue to be processed but may not be finalized before the program changes go into effect.
While participation in the Air Cargo Security Program is voluntary, failure to apply under one of the new participant categories will result in delays and fees associated with screening cargo.
