December 8, 2015 Shipping Small Vehicles Powered by Lithium Batteries
Safety is Air Canada’s number one priority. Air Canada no longer accepts small lithium-battery powered vehicles as checked or carry-on baggage given the potential safety risks associated with the size of the batteries that power them, which are classified as dangerous goods.
Small lithium battery-powered vehicles are commonly referred to as hoverboards, electric skateboards, airwheels, mini-segways and balance wheels.
UPDATE: Effective December 18, 2015, Air Canada Cargo will only accept these types of vehicles which are brand new, in the original manufacturers packaging that has not been opened or tampered with. If you are planning to travel with one of these vehicles, Air Canada Cargo may be able to help. Please contact our call center in Canada at 1-800-387-4865 or a local Air Canada Cargo representative in advance of your flight for more information on the very rigorous requirements for dangerous goods packaging, documentation and other requirements to ensure the safe shipment of your vehicle.
