Air Canada's team of highly qualified instructors draw upon their knowledge and years of experience to deliver optimum pilot training in a variety of areas.

The following is a complete list of courses available. Click on each course name to view a short description.

AQP 101

This 8 hour course teaches the differences between AQP and traditional commercial pilot training. An introduction to the AQP methodologies and the importance of accurate data collection is described. Instructors and Evaluators are introduced to the grade sheets and the concept of inter-rater reliability and its importance in providing fair, objective and consistent evaluations.

Bill C-45

The purpose of this 1 hour course is to familiarize leaders in the workplace with their obligations and accountability under the Criminal Code to ensure a safe work environment for their employees.

Canada Labour Code Part II

The intent of this 1 hour course is to familiarize front line managers with their obligations and accountability under the Canada Labour Code. This required course for federally regulated companies addresses employer and employee responsibilities as well as Workplace Health and Safety Committees.

Corporate Safety Compliance Auditor

This 20 hour (2.5 days) course introduce trainees to the fundamentals of Health and Safety Auditing and the basic audit process, familiarizes trainees with the 5-step approach to on-site audit activities, and provides an opportunity to practice skills and techniques that are essential to conducting audits.

Corporate Safety Compliance Auditor Team Leader

The purpose of this 4 hour program is to equip seasoned auditors with the tools and techniques required to lead a team of Compliance Auditors.

Crew Resource Management

A 3 day course, CRM teaches proactive accident prevention strategies that can be applied to safety conscious organizations. In aviation, pilots are the last line of defense and it is vital that lessons are learned from the experience and errors of others. These same techniques can be taught to participants from other industries outside of aviation including manufacturing and medicine. While systemic barriers have been erected to limit the risk of an accident, no system is perfect. CRM at Air Canada is designed to teach participants to identify and take action to "plug the holes" in industry safety defenses.

Due Diligence

The purpose of this the 1 hour Due Diligence course is to familiarize management personnel with their obligations to take every reasonably practicable precaution to avoid a particular event that may injure an employee. Due diligence is expected by your company and the law.

Fundamentals of Evaluation

This 3 day program is comprised of 3 modules and is targeted toward Type "V", Type "E" and Type "O" Evaluator candidates and will familiarize the candidates with the authorities, criteria and standards for conducting MPV/MTV validations and LOE/OE evaluations.

Fundamentals of Instructional Techniques Part 1

Aimed at Instructors and Evaluators, this 8 hour course teaches instructional techniques implementing lectures, discussion, video, demonstration and small-group activities in the delivery of the following modules:
  • Instructional Techniques Workshop
  • Communication and People Skills

Fundamentals of Instructional Techniques Part 2

This 8 hour course follows the Fundamentals of Instructional Techniques Part 1 and is tailored specifically for simulator instructors, Type "E" and Type "V" Evaluators and Initial Operating Experience Training Captains (IOETCs) and covers the following modules:
  • Line-Oriented Instruction/Evaluation Techniques
  • Instructional CRM

Introduction to Command

The course will provide you with much of the "need-to-know" information required of a new Captain. Much of the information and many of the ideas presented will not necessarily be found in any publication. The venue of the course provides a forum for the exchange of ideas between the presenters, facilitators and your peers. In addition, it provides an ideal opportunity to ask some thought-provoking questions during your journey to the "LEFT SEAT". Course content includes: Command Process, Flight Safety, Flight Dispatch/SOC, IFR Review, Fuel, Legal Considerations, and CRM.

Instructional Techniques Workshop

This is a comprehensive 2 day program designed primarily for pilot training in the simulator, aircraft and classroom. Using an interactive hands-on approach, the participants learn the principles of adult learning with a specific emphasis on how pilots learn, techniques for dealing with problem students and presentation skills.

Management Development and Leadership Ethics Training

This 3 day course is targeted to newly promoted managers who may not have had the academic exposure and management style training required for their new responsibilities. This course teaches leadership ethics, fundamental managerial functions, enhanced communication skills and provides tools for dealing with staff and day-to-day issues.

Right to Refuse

The intent of this1 hour course is to familiarize management personnel with the process requirements that must be implemented when addressing employees who, under the Canada Labour Code, are exercising their right to refuse what they see as dangerous work.

Safety Awareness

This 2 hour interactive session compels the participant to recognize safety 24/7 and view it as something that is everyone's responsibility. Content includes a thought-provoking testimonial video and classroom discussion. Audience may be from front line employees to senior management.

10 Step Accident/Incident Investigations

An 6 hour course describing the procedures utilized by Air Canada front line managers while investigating and reporting accidents and incidents including employee injuries, aircraft ground damage, ground equipment damage, facilities damage and 3rd party damage or injury. The training is intended to provide managers with the knowledge and skills necessary to successfully:
  • Carry out an accident/incident investigation,
  • Generate an accident/incident report,
  • Create corrective measures to prevent recurrence.

Hazard Prevention Program

Hazard Prevention is a 4 hour course intended to instruct Management and Health & Safety Committees on their obligations under Part II of the Canada Labour Code to establish, monitor and measure a Hazard Prevention Program in the workplace.

Human Factors in Accident Investigation

Unlike engineering investigation, this 4 hour course focuses on the human factors that contribute to accidents and injuries.

Violence in the Workplace

This 2 hour course provides familiarization for Management and Health & Safety Committees as to their obligations under Part II of the Canada Labour Code to establish, monitor and measure a Violence in the Workplace program.
