bmi to Withdraw from Star Alliance Network

On May 31, 2012, one of our codeshare partners, British Midland International (bmi) will be withdrawing from the Star Alliance network.

For any travel completed before May 31, 2012:

  • Aeroplan Members will earn Status Miles on all eligible scheduled flights operated by bmi. When travelling with bmi:
    • Air Canada Prestige members will enjoy Star Alliance Silver recognition, and
    • Air Canada Super Elite and Elite members will enjoy Star Alliance Gold recognition, including access to bmi lounges.
    • Air Canada Top Tier members who have chosen the Top Tier Bonus as part of their Select Privileges will continue to earn 25% Bonus Aeroplan Miles on all eligible flights operated by bmi.
  • bmi Diamond Club Members will continue to earn Status Miles on all eligible scheduled flights operated by Air Canada. When travelling with Air Canada:
Diamond Club Silver members will enjoy Star Alliance Silver recognition, and Diamond Club Gold members will enjoy Star Alliance Gold recognition, including access to Air Canada Maple Leaf Lounges.

For any travel effective June 1, 2012, the benefits and recognition outlined above will end. However, Air Canada will continue its codeshare agreement with bmi.

Aeroplan Members will still be able to earn Aeroplan Miles when purchasing an eligible Air Canada codeshare flight operated by bmi, according to the Air Canada mileage accumulation chart. However, to receive miles for these flights, members will need to send their original boarding pass and a legible copy of their ticket to the Aeroplan Centre.
