Special Service for Unaccompanied Children
Each year, more than 10,000 unaccompanied children between the ages of 8 and 11 travel safely on Air Canada, thanks to the airline's Unaccompanied Minor (UM) program, which ensures that children travelling alone enjoy a safe and happy trip. All children registered with the Unaccompanied Minor service are escorted and supervised by the airline's trained agents and flight attendants from the moment they arrive at airport check-in until they reach their final destination. With the UM service, children travelling alone:
- Receive a UM tag to wear while travelling to ensure easy identification by Air Canada staff.
- Board before the other passengers, and are escorted to specific seats selected for their added security and comfort.
- Receive special attention from the in-flight crew to ensure that they are comfortable and have everything they need.
- Are handed over to the person meeting them only after this person has provided photo identification and signed a special UM form, thus accepting responsibility for the child.
