Functionality
The bilingual self-service check-in kiosks include touch-sensitive screens, boarding pass printers and card readers. Any customer with a valid reservation can use the kiosk by simply inserting their magnetic stripe Aeroplan card, a major credit card that reflects their name as it appears on their reservation, and where available, scan the passport or by manually entering their booking reference number, Aeroplan number, Star Frequent Flyer number.
The customer can navigate through a series of user-friendly screens and can: select a seat through use of interactive seat maps; stand by for an earlier flight (if eligible); enter the number of bags to be checked; request an upgrade (if eligible); obtain boarding passes for connecting flights and select the frequent flyer program he/she wishes to accumulate miles on.
The kiosk displays to the customer instructions on how to proceed and prints out a bar-coded boarding pass.
All airports are equipped with special baggage drop-off counters for customers with checked baggage. Passports and visas of customers travelling on transborder or international flights are checked at the baggage drop-off counters or at the departure gate.
Air Canada agents are on hand to guide customers through the check-in process if needed.
