We understand that our employees want to ensure their family's financial security in the event of death. Air Canada offers a range of life and accident insurance Plans in an effort to adequately allow our employees to provide for their families. These Plans include the Basic Group Life Plan, which for some employee groups is fully paid for by Air Canada, while for other employees Air Canada assumes the majority of the cost. Supplementary Life, Voluntary Accidental Death are also among the other life insurance plans available to Air Canada employees.

 


Travel Privileges

One of the most noticeable advantages of being part of the Air Canada team is the fact that our employees, their immediate family and travel partners can enjoy reduced-rate tickets. We have also negotiated discounts with our diverse partners on car rental, hotel accommodations, vacation packages (with Air Canada Vacations) and tour operators such as Interline Plus.


Personal Insurance Program

Whether you own or rent a home, it's important to have sufficient insurance. The same also goes for your automobile. The Air Canada Personal Automobile, Homeowners, Tenants Insurance Plan gives our employees the opportunity to obtain first-rate group property and automobile insurance by way of payroll deductions. In addition to protection at home, Air Canada allows its employee to join the Emergency Medical Travel Protection Plan for protection in the event of an illness or accident away from home.


Health Care

The Supplementary Health Plan is fully paid for by Air Canada and pays for basic hospital and medical expenses. For additional coverage, the Supplementary Health Plan which has varied packages depending on the category of employees, can cover more exhaustive professional health services (vision care, chiropractor, psychologist, physiotherapy expenses, etc...). For our employees travelling outside of Canada, the International SOS Assistance Access Program takes care of emergencies during their travel.


Dental Care

The Dental Plan is fully paid for by Air Canada, different options are available to the different categories of employees. However, for all employees the Plan covers 100% of preventative services, 90% of basic services and 50% of major services and orthodontical services (for children under 21 only).


Life and Accident Coverage

Pension Plan

At Air Canada, we wish to provide our employees with some financial security at time of retirement, to this end the Air Canada Pension Plan is mandatory for all employees who join our Company. Our Plan is a Defined Benefit Plan and contributions are payroll deducted. Depending upon the employee group employees can retire without penalty as early as age 55 as long as they have worked for 25 years or if their age and years of service equal 80. Normal retirement age for most Air Canada employees (excluding Pilots) is 65.


Vacation

All employees benefit from vacation for rest and relaxation. The vacation entitlement is determined by the number of years of service within the Company and can range from a minimum of 2 weeks to a maximum of 6 weeks. Air Canada's vacation policy provides for vacation with pay in accordance with statutory requirements, length of service and market practice.


Training and E-Learning

A key to a successful career is to gain experience but also knowledge of different aspect of our work. Air Canada has an e-learning program that makes training available to anyone from almost anywhere. We provide online training on different computer applications (Internet/Intranet, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Access and MS-Office) at no cost to the employee. Employees can also register online to training sessions covering diverse subject from presentation skills to management foundations. Language training is also offered to our employees to perfect or gain knowledge in French, English, Spanish or German.


Employee Recognition Programs

Air Canada offers different programs and activities to its employees. Excellence and longevity of service is an important contribution from our employees and is recognized through our Award of Excellence and Service Anniversary programs. The Air Canada Recreational Association (ACRA) organizes numerous activities throughout the year (curling, softball, hockey, bowling and golf tournament across Canada); it also manages the gymnasium located in our Montreal Facility.


Employee Assistance Program

Employees may encounter a wide range of problems that, while not necessarily directly associated with their work, can have a serious effect on their family, friends, health and work performance. Air Canada offers to its employee an assistance program to deal with life's challenges in a confidential manner.


Work Environment

Each Air Canada employee is entitled to work and develop their career in an environment free of personal or sexual harassment. In order to prevent and prohibit any harassment incident, Air Canada offers its employees steps to follow and ensure confidentiality when dealing with such an incident.

Air Canada products and promotional items are quite popular! A boutique in our Head Office in Montreal as well as our Operations Centre in Vancouver are available to our employees on business hours to purchase any items they wish at a discounted price.
