Air Canada has a long-standing commitment to the environment and our team at Cargo consistently seeks ways to contribute to that effort.
To help mitigate the environmental footprint of transportation, we will begin phasing out of all LD8 (RC6) unit load devices (ULD) from our fleet due to their age, high cost of maintenance and fuel inefficiency as of October 31. Subsequently, we will discontinue LD8 (RC6) ULD pricing effective October 31 as well.
We are researching light weight ULDs for introduction some time in the near future, so stay tuned for further details! However, this is only a very small part of what we as a corporation are doing to minimize the impact of our industry on the environment. Changes to AC Pharmacair
We regularly evaluate our services and solutions to ensure that we are providing you with the best possible quality and customer service levels. As such, after careful review of our AC Pharmacair solution, we will be making modifications to exposure times and the AC Pharmacair check sheet to better meet your expectations.
Exposure Times:
Shipment exposure times have been revised from a maximum of 60 minutes to a maximum of 90 minutes for all AC Pharmacair certified stations, with the exception of London – Heathrow (LHR) and all South American stations where the exposure times remain unchanged at a maximum of 120 minutes. These changes are effective immediately.
Reminder!
Exposure time is defined as the amount of time that a shipment is exposed to the outside elements including, but not limited to, any location outside the cargo warehouse or aircraft. Please keep in mind that exposure times are not the same as tender and retrieval times.
AC Pharmacair check sheet:
The AC Pharmacair check sheet will be discontinued effective immediately. Different options for capturing the Air Canada Cargo warehouse temperatures are currently being evaluated and will be communicated at a later time.

Air Canada will discontinue service to Iqaluit (YFB) on July 31
You may have heard that Air Canada will no longer be offering service to Iqaluit (YFB) effective July 31.
What impact will this have?
We want to reassure you that we will continue to offer cargo service to this destination using our interline partners Canadian North and First Air. All shipments booked for travel on or before July 30 will be flown on Air Canada Jazz and all shipments booked for travel after July 30 will be transported either on Canadian North or First Air.
We don't expect this change to cause any inconvenience and invite you to get in touch with your local sales team should you have any questions.

We've made enhancements to our "track cargo" feature
As part of our ongoing efforts to improve your experience on our website, we are pleased to announce that we have made enhancements to our "track cargo" feature and hope that you'll find it to be more customer-friendly!
The enhancements include:
- A "current status" display at the top of the search results page, no longer requiring you to read between the lines;
- The booking information clearly indicates which portion of your shipment's itinerary is carried by truck and which portion by air and
- Status details are grouped by date, which make it easier to read.
Please note that the website contains the most up-to-date information available in our system; our Call Centre agents have access to the same information.

No need to perform radiation screening on cargo returning from Japan
We are continuing to monitor the situation in Japan following the March 11, 2011 earthquake and have the following updated information.
Canadian governmental agencies including Health Canada, Public Health Agency of Canada, Public Safety Canada, Radiation Protection Bureau have all remained consistent in their messaging confirming that there are no restrictions for Canadians travelling to or from Japan.
In addition, they have confirmed that there is currently no need to perform radiation screening on returning aircraft, baggage, cargo, passengers or crew. Canadian governmental agencies have also advised that there is no requirements for special precautions in handling any of these items at this time, as they have deemed there is currently no risk of radiation contamination.
The Radiation Protection Bureau in Canada monitors radiation levels across Canadian cities on an ongoing basis and has done so for years. They monitor food, precipitation and air on an on-going basis and are therefore able to immediately determine is there are any abnormal radiation increase of any kind.

Changes to our Envirotainer lease charges
We regularly evaluate our pricing structure to ensure that we are providing our customers
with the best quality and customer service at competitive prices.
As such, after careful review of our current pricing structure, we will be increasing our Envirotainer lease charges for RKNt2 and RAPt2 containers for bookings made on and after April 25, 2011. Any bookings made prior to April 25, 2011 will be honoured at the current price.

Update on Air Canada Cargo's operations in Japan
The cargo facility at Narita International Airport (NRT) sustained damage when the earthquake struck Japan last Friday. As such, the station remains under a red alert and there continues to be an embargo on the acceptance and carriage of goods to NRT, except for Emergency Medical Shipments (as described under EMS).
What does this mean?
All cargo shipments currently on-hand to/from NRT are subject to delays.Furthermore, we are unable to grant exceptions other than medical supplies and the following types of shipments will not be accepted for the duration of the alert:
- Perishables (PERAF);
- High Value items and
- Live Animals.
We are monitoring the situation closely and working in conjunction with local and international authorities, including the World Health Organization and a number of Canadian agencies and have been advised that specific measures are not required.
Additional updates will be provided as they become available. In the meantime, should you have any questions, your local Air Canada Sales team as well as our Call Centre agents will be glad to assist you.
We are doing our best to minimize disruptions to our operations and thank you for your understanding during this time.

Heightened security at London Heathrow Airport (LHR)
Due to heightened security at London Heathrow Airport (LHR), shipments being transferred from Air Canada to another carrier (interline) at LHR will require screening in LHR. Please note that this screening does not apply to shipments with a final destination of LHR or shipments being transferred to trucks.
What this means:
- Cargo to and from, or transiting through, the United Kingdom is subject to screening requirements imposed by the UK Department for Transport (Dft).
- When primary screening methods are not available, due to size or density of the shipment, additional screening methods need to be used to make the cargo secure for shipment.
- As this is a regulated requirement imposed by the UK DfT, Air Canada is not responsible for any loss, delay or damage resulting from the processes used to make the cargo secure to fly.
Due to these heightened screening requirements, until further notice, transshipments will require longer connection times in LHR. All shipments transiting LHR require a minimum of 36 hour connection time. Exceptions to this minimum connection time in LHR are:
- Perishable shipments (PER) such as lobster require a minimum connection time of 8 hours.
- Radioactive shipments transferring via LHR are currently embargoed.
Please ensure that all shipments to and transiting through LHR hold a confirmed booking based on the above minimum connection times in LHR.

New directives for live animal shipments bound for the United States
Recently the United States Transportation Security Administration issued new directives for shipments that are bound for the United States. Customers wishing to transport live animals to or transiting through the United States are required to have an established business relationship with Air Canada Cargo and an active Air Canada Cargo account.

Limited operations resume at London Heathrow Airport (LHR)
Due to a British Airport Authority (BAA) water main break at London Heathrow Airport (LHR) on December 22nd, the Air Canada Cargo terminal has sustained extensive water damage and has since been without normal electrical power.
As of today, we have been able to resume limited operations at our London Heathrow (LHR) facility with temporary electrical power.
What this means:
- New bookings can be accepted to/from the U.K., however certain restrictions apply.
We cannot accept the following types of shipments until further notice:
- AVI shipments.
- Firearms.
- Dangerous Goods (apart from dry ice and bio commodities).
Customers in the United Kindgom:
- An additional sales contact number is now available for inquiries 020 85879600.
- Operating hours for pick up from or delivery to the Air Canada LHR Cargo facility are 0700 to 1500 local time daily until further notice.

Update for LHR Cargo Station
Due to a British Airport Authority (BAA) water main break at London Heathrow Airport (LHR) on December 22nd, the Air Canada Cargo terminal has sustained extensive water damage and has since been without electrical power.
As of December 29th, we have been able to resume limited operations at our London Heathrow (LHR) facility. We expect freight currently on hand destined to LHR as well as exports from LHR to be moved to destination by December 30th.
Until further notice, we cannot accept bookings transiting beyond LHR. New bookings can be accepted originating LHR as well as final destination LHR as of December 30th under the following conditions:
- Maximum loose consignment weight of 500kg;
- Pieces must fit into LD2 (DPE/DPN) or LD3 (AKE/AKN) containers;
- Maximum pallet weight of 1600kg;
- LHR origin cargo must be UK Department of Transport (DfT) known cargo only.
Operating hours for pick up from or delivery to the Air Canada LHR Cargo facility are 0700-1500 daily until further notice.

Effective January 1st, 2011 the twenty-seven (27) Member States in the European Union (EU) will implement the Import Control System (ICS)
Dear Valued Customer,
Effective January 1st, 2011 the twenty-seven (27) Member States in the European Union (EU) will implement the Import Control System (ICS) which requires filing a pre-arrival Entry Summary Declaration (ENS) and means that all cargo, whether or not consigned to the EU, must be declared.
As such, effective December 31, 2010, Air Canada Cargo will implement the European Union Regulations pertaining to the requirements for pre-arrival information for all freight arriving or transiting in the EU.
What action is required?
To minimize delays and possible penalties, please forward
the required information electronically using the standard
messages of Freight Waybill (FWB) and Freight House List
(FHL).
Transmit to Air Canada Cargo:
Methods:
- Send an FWB and FHL message to Air Canada Cargo using
Electronic Data Interchange (EDI) messaging.
Cost: $3.50 for Customs Electronic Processing (CG), or - Enter the house bill information into the Cargo Portal Service (CPS) Cost: N/A, or
- Provide Air Canada Cargo with
the house manifest and we will manually enter the
house bill data and transmit the data to EU customs.
Cost: $18.00 for Customs Manual Processing (CC).
All funds are denoted in Canadian dollars and charges will be converted to local currency equivalencies.

Winter conditions in England limit Air Canada flights to London Heathrow
Please be advised that the continuing effects of severe winter conditions in England are strictly limiting our operations to and from London Heathrow Airport (LHR). We are currently only able to operate one-third of our normal schedule due to restrictions at LHR and our ability to increase capacity is very limited due to slot constraints.
We ask that you please refrain from tendering your shipments destined for or transiting through London Heathrow until further notice.

Special security measures
In light of recent events, the following security measures are applicable with immediate effect.
Air Canada Cargo will not transport any shipment nor accept interline transfers that originated or transited through a point in Yemen (YE) or Somalia (SO).
Ink cartridges and toner cartridges are prohibited for carriage as air cargo on flights from aerodromes in Canada. Ink and toner cartridges are also prohibited as air cargo on flights to the United Kingdom.
Restrictions have been implemented on shipments destined to or transiting through the United States, as per the directive from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security.

Transporting Dangerous Goods To and From Belgium
Air Canada Cargo has recently been awarded a license by the Belgian Civil Aviation Authority to transport dangerous goods to and from Belgium.
Effective August 16, 2010, we will be permitted to transport all classes of dangerous goods (excluding Class 1 explosives and Class 7 Radioactive Materials) on-board our aircraft to and from the Brussels International Airport (BRU). Our extensive experience handling these types of items over the years makes us the premier choice to safely transport your specialized cargo.
We kindly remind you that all shipments of dangerous goods accepted, handled and offered for transport on-board Air Canada must be in accordance with the ICAO Technical Instructions for the Safe Transport of Dangerous Goods as well as the IATA Dangerous Goods Regulations.

New Calgary-Tokyo route offers Cargo connections with a world of possibilities
CALGARY - Air Canada Cargo is offering new, non-stop seasonal service three times per week to and from Calgary (YYC) and Tokyo-Narita (NRT) starting Mar. 27. The new route, operated by a Boeing 767-300, is the only non-stop service from the Calgary area to Asia.
While the new service is YYC-NRT non-stop, the connection of those two points offers unique opportunities for shippers and forwarders to leverage Air Canada's global network. These new services include:
- A fast and easy, fin-to-fin transit in YYC connecting NRT and LHR / FRA
- More wide-body capacity between YYC and YYZ (aircraft originates in YYZ)
- A timely connection ex-YYC to South America (via YYZ)

AC Cool lease cost price adjustment
Effective April 1, 2010, Air Canada Cargo will revise its AC Cool lease costs to reflect increases passed on from Envirotainer to all airlines. The new rates are:

Please note that other charges will remain unchanged, including pickup and/or delivery, express ordering, the change order fee and cancellation.
We would like to inform you that we accept CLD-t2 (JYP) containers on a Ready for Carriage basis. Customer must lease these units directly from Envirotainer and coordinate all lease logistics, including pick-up from and return to the origin station. Air Canada Cargo will transport these units from origin airport to destination airport only.

Notice of correction (PNC) Procedure Revisions
Effective March 1, 2010, Air Canada Cargo will revise its procedure regarding the Notice of Correction.
Please note all freight tendered to Air Canada Cargo is subject to re-weighing and/or re-measuring of the dimensions at the point of tender, at intermediate points or at the point of destination. In the event of a discrepancy between the weight or dimensions shown on the Air Waybill, as it was entered by the Shipper or its Agent, and the weight as shown on Air Canada Cargo scales and/or dimensions as measured by Air Canada Cargo personnel, the Shipper and its Agent agree that Air Canada Cargo, in its sole discretion, may use the weight and/or dimensions as determined by Air Canada Cargo to re-calculate the freight charges.
The Shipper or its Agent will be notified by Air Canada Cargo either with an electronic or faxed copy of a Notice of Correction if the weight and/or dimensions, as determined by Air Canada Cargo, is less or greater than the weight and/or dimensions entered on the Air Waybill by the Shipper or the Agent.
The Shipper or its Agent will have 72 hours after notification to advise Air Canada if there is a dispute of the revised weight and/or dimensions.
